Phobias are learned reactions to objects or situations, so we are not born with these abnormal fears.
They can be accompanied by irrational thoughts and behaviours.
You may have a phobia if your fear is excessive or irrational.
Avoidance of the anxiety provoking situation or ‘trigger’ tends to be the first method of trying to deal with it.
However, when it interferes with your life, its time to seek help.
You may also experience panic attacks, and hyperventilation.
Don’t avoid getting help, the way you avoid trigger situations, as it will only get worse.
Hypnotherapy helps to bring your fear under control by enabling you to confront it, while staying calm and relaxed, allowing you to put the fear into proper perspective.
(We can’t be relaxed and anxious at the same time)
Please be reassured that you won’t literally be confronted with your fear during therapy, that technique is quite dated now.
